Back from the Land of the Lost

Wow. What a month. Just after my last post, I managed to get the dreaded "Windows XP 2010 Antivirus" virus. WHAT a nasty thing. A pop-up appears (how it got around my pop-up blocker I don't know), which LOOKS like it is from Microsoft. If you click ANYWHERE on the box (the "x", in the body, or on the "yes" or "no" boxes, it downloads an executable file which wreaks havoc on your computer. If you should get this, shut your computer down and run a malware check and you may be able to get it off...or you can restore to an earlier restoration date.

I have spend almost a month removing it, restoring files (and not all of them are back) and programs...as well as dealing with other stuff.... Now, to add insult to injury, my husband had forwarded me a warning from his workplace IT warning me about this in November....and I forgot it.

Also, at the end of February, I finished this little piece, "Take off your sandals for you are standing on holy ground." It really is little, only 12" square. I made a drawing of my daughter's feet and then painted it on cotton with acrylic paints. I appliqued it onto the background (a spring green) and then fused little slivers of green onto the surface for the grass. My daughter complained that I didn't actually use her nail polish color on the toenails....hers was a deep maroon....a little clashy I thought.

This particular piece is going to be on display at the Marianist Environmental Education Center's Gallery St. John in Dayton, OH. This is a mixed media show. The theme this year was "Sacred Ground."

I really had fun with this piece and realized once again how much I enjoy using painted elements in my quilting.

Beautiful quilt, really evocative of spring!

Sorry to hear about your scary computer problems... thanks for telling us what to look for.

Beautiful quilt, speaks very loudly of the theme!

We all need to be reminded also that GREEN living is important to our planet. Not overboard just as thoughtful as we can be of
our home world.

Thanks, Judi. The lady at the cutting counter when I was buying the greens thought I was making a St. Patrick's day quilt. It was a joyous thing to work with those colors!

Diana, that's exactly what I was going for! If we treated the ground as sacred, or at least did things so that we could all walk barefoot, then we'd be a whole lot better off.

Great theme quilt. Also it reminds me of growing up in warm Florida and spending most of my time outside with bare feet.

That is a marvelous little quilt. I love the way you treated the theme. Very well done.

Thanks so much Christine and Quilting Librarian. I hate to have shoes on, even though I grew up in Michigan. I am amused that my daughter is somewhat the same.

I think I should have put a little more batting in the legs/feet. They were machine trapunto, but I think it could have been a little more fluffy. I showed it to one lady and she said "someone has arthritis." Oohhh scary thought. My daughter runs cross country, and yes, she has boney feet (as is the rest of her body as well), but arthritis? At 17 I can say for her at least "not yet."

It is a love piece and I "FEEL" spring in it. I especially like the texture of the grass.

Bravo, Lisa! This piece made me want to take my shoes off and stand in some beautiful grass. Our lawn hasn't come back yet, we need more days of spring for that to happen, but to me, this piece is also about the promise of spring, particularly following the unusually snowy winter we've experienced here in Virginia this year. Bravo and keep up the good work!

This makes me smile because I am always barefoot. No longer in the grass, however, because of Lyme disease from all the deer behind our house. But this little quilt brings back the feel of what used to be.

I think this is fabulous. It really is evocative of the fun of going barefoot -- one of my favorite things of summer.
